Cyprus ranks among the oldest wine producing countries of the world. Very few places are so ideally situated and adapted as Cyprus, for the growing of the Vine. The rich soil, the Mediterranean sunshine and the right climatic conditions of Cyprus are all ideal for the production of quality grapes and wines.
Several archaeological findings, ancient references and writings have proved that the wine making in Cyprus has a tradition so old that, its beginning is impossible to trace.
ETKO LTD. with a tradition and experience in wine making since 1844 is the oldest wine producer on the island. ETKO is a public company and has become nowadays a highly organized modern winery.
For improving the quality of wines and to cope fully with its export markets, ETKO is adequately equipped with the most modern and up-to-date plants and equipment. The company is also carrying out researches and experiments for the production of new wines and for this purpose has planted its own vineyards with new varieties of grapes at Zanadzia region in the same fields as the original vineyards of the company were cultivated.
ETKO wines have won international recognition and appreciation by winning many gold medals and awards at International Competitions and Fairs. ETKO has also won the 1983 Cyprus Award for Export, which is given by the Cyprus Government to firms for the contribution towards export.
ETKO produces a big range of wines, which are successfully sold in the local and international markets. The products of the company and are being exported to U.K., Germany, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Australia, USA, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, etc. ETKO is also the producer of EMVA Cream Liqueur wine, the most popular and best selling Cyprus liqueur wine in the U.K.
ETKO LTD within the sphere of its activities and continuous efforts for development and improvement of quality and strictly following its very long tradition and respect to the wine consumer built in 1992 a new regional winery at Omodhos village, Limassol district, under the name OLYMPUS WINERIES LTD. The winery started its operation with the vintage of 1992.
OLYMPUS WINERIES LTD. has also purchased vineyards for planting new grape varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Riesling) and about 40 hectares have been planted from the above varieties.
In 1999 ETKO LTD bought a new winery in Greece. The new winery under the name OLYMPUS HELLAS is situated in Peloponisos, Greece. From this winery the wines Mantinia White Dry and Nemea Red Dry are produced.
Our company from some years now is adopting Quality Systems and ETKO procedures are according to the standard CYS EN ISO 9001:2008 and the HACCP system is fulfilled the standard CYS EN ISO 22000: 2005.
